Namewise

By how quickly the record widened

The gap between the year the first registrar ranked a name and the year the last one did.

This measures when registrars began publishing a name, not the name itself moving anywhere. Registrars start publishing in different years — Norway from 1945, Scotland from 2014 — so a long gap often reflects when a source began rather than anything about the name. Single-registrar names have no gap at all and appear in none of these bands.
